Versatility of Locs: Marley Hair Extensions

Lately I've been wanting to do something different with my hair and since I've stopped coloring it I had to think of something creative. So I decided to give Crochet Braids a try with Marley Hair.

First I created 5 cornrows with my baby locs, which are barely long enough to stay braided. I did the cornrows wet after I shampooed and retwisted my locs. I felt that this would allow them to stay in better because they would dry in place.

After my hair was dry, I simply used a crochet hook and installed the Marley Hair onto my cornrows. I used about 2.5 packs, which was too much, I think I could have successfully used no more than 2 packs (lesson learned for the next time). The entire installation took me about 2 hours with breaks, so probably about an hour and a half total.

The finished look was a head full of textured hair! Little did I realize it was a heat wave in Maryland, lol so all that hair was kind of a lot.

To tame all the hair, I put in about 12 chunky twists and then tied them back or up out of my face.

Another Stylist at Aveda, whom I adore, wanted to try an updo style on me and of course I let her! She did the updo from the chunky twists and created a funky faux hawk!

To maintain this style I moisturize my locs with Jane Carter Solutions Moisture Mist and sleep with a bonnet on my head, leaving the ends out.

This simply and easy style is protective of my locs because of the low manipulation and very versatile because I can wear it loose, twisted, up, down or however I want! After a few days of fun, I miss my locs but I'll definitely revisit this style again, maybe try a whole head of Marley Twists after the install next!
