I have not tried a homemade gel. I've resolved to just retwisting with a small tooth comb and no holding product. A little oil will do. I do sit under the dryer during winter because I do not want to go out with wet hair or a wet scalp. During the summer I airdry.
Yes! Just retwisting my locs with no product works out nicely too, regardless our hair will loc. I need to try doing it with a comb some time, that sounds like it would give a better hold.
