While driving to work today, it was much better than music to my ears....it was a story about a News Report that went natural and got permission to document and publicize her story! It is so great to see natural hair being recognized and accepted within mass media. Slowly, but surely, I am hoping this acceptance will encourage more woman to embrace their natural hair!
What I found interesting about her story was that she was told in the beginning of her career (by a black woman) to get extensions if she wanted to "make it" in the industry; she did...and to her surprise she got more work. Then when she came to her producers with her pitch for the story her manager said "..I had no idea black woman had an issue with their hair...".
The negative self-image that some Black women have and perpetuate upon others is really sad. And I personally know it's going to take many generations to correct this mentality but major movements like woman in mass media embracing their natural hair are steps in the right direction! I challenge you to embrace your natural hair (if you haven't already) and encourage other woman to do the same... break the cycle!
Take a look a Rochelle Ritchie's 'Big Chop Story' that was aired on the Channel 5 News in West Palm Beach, Florida and see the strides natural hair is making!
Since my installation I've wondered how many Sisterlocks I have. Easily, I thought I had 500 or so given that it took 26 hours hours to complete. Well, I finally got to count them all last night. Guess how many I have?
You read it right, 1st Annual! Now that I am apart of the Sisterlocks revolution, it is right on time that the first ever Sisterlock convention is happening in a little over a month in Atlanta, GA! I just found out about it and I definitely want to attend...It's not everyday that you get to experience the beginning of something I know will be great, especially in years to come.
A few weeks ago, I stumbled upon a few videos about the Huetiful Hair Steamer and I was so excited that I wanted to get one! Sadly, when I went on the website they were sold out...but I added myself to the mailing list and now my Huetiful Hair Steamer is on its way!!
The Huetiful Hair Steamer is suppose to be used to better condition your hair. According to Huetiful, the Huetiful Hair Steamer "restores moisture 5x better than conditioner alone"!! Another great thing is that it is not only for natural hair...relaxed or transitioning hair can benefit from the moisturizing results of the Huetiful Hair Steamer!!
Once it comes in, I will make a video [HERE] and share my experience with you [HERE]!! If you can't wait, head on over to http://www.behuetiful.com now to get yours... right now they are offering free shipping!
My thoughts of two great products from the Shea Moisture brand. I review the 'Shea Butter Herbal Pomade' which is really great for styling and the 'Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioner' which is excellent if you blow-dry your hair!
One of the best things about having natural hair is the low maintenance...especially in the Summer months! I love just washing my hair and then hopping in the car and letting my hair dry in the wind. What a great feeling!
At the time of my confession, I had 6 Shampoos, 6 Conditioners, 15 Oils, and 7 Lotions... YIKES! As of today, I am down to 6 Shampoos, 2 Conditioners, 10 Oils, and 3 Lotions.. MAJOR improvement!
My plan is to stay committed to my "Product Freeze" until I am down to my very last, but with the Natural Hair Care Expo coming in town this weekend, its going to be REALLY hard..but hopefully I won't do too much damage :)
I can't wait until the weather breaks!! I am looking forward to wearing my wash-n-go fro once again..especially since I discovered Uncle Funky's Daughter !! They're products look like they would be sooo great for rockin' my curly fro! I really have my eye on the 'Curly Magic' (Curl Simulator)...
On January 20th, 2010 I completed 1 full year on my natural hair journey!! It felt really nice to come full circle! Starting off practically bald to now having shoulder length hair has been a blessing! I posted a quick video on YouTube [HERE], just giving a brief update and I talked about a book that I have been reading 'Thank God I'm Natural'.. Be sure to check out the video and the book!
