"You Can't Make It In Corporate America With Locs"...Supposedly.
It hurts me that in this day and age we, as a people, cannot embrace our own culture. I recently discovered the article in Black Enterprise entitled "Hampton University School of Business Bans Dreadlocks"....and I did the double take, like really?! I personally know several people that went to Hampton and a few of them actually have locs and graduated and landed great jobs, so why is it that the Dean insists "Male students enrolled in the school's 5-year MBA program who take the seminar class cannot wear dreadlocks or cornrows in class"?!

The Beauty Behind "A Beautiful Disaster"
I sincerely hope that you've had the opportunity to see the poem, "A Beautiful Disaster"; if not, before you read any further, go take a look at it in a previous post [HERE]. The poem resonated with me on so many levels that I had to share it, but I also took notice to the criticisms and reactions, both positive and negative, that the video conjured. This led me to reach out to, Kayla, the beautiful mind behind the poem and understand things from her point of view....

"Why I Embrace Natural Hair and Reject Weave"
I thought this was a beautiful poem about the mentality of our current society and natural hair.
What are your thoughts on the poem?

The NuGrowth Book Club is Official!
My vision for the NuGrowth Book Club is to build knowledge within the natural hair community by reading and discussing Non-Fiction African-American Literature about Culture & Beauty. Initially, I was going to have the NuGrowth Book Club solely online, but I love the in-person interaction and sense of community, so I'm going to do BOTH! You can join the NuGrowth Book Club by subscribing to the mailing list [HERE] or below.

[Recap] NuGrowth Meetup @ OyinHandmade & XS
The meetup today was amazing, to say the least! The diversity of women that came out to the event was truly wonderful. There were women transitioning to natural hair, women with Sisterlocks, loose natural hair, and even someone that just did the big chop a week ago! In addition to the stunning women in attendance, the venues were really nice!

NuGrowth Book Club: The Science of Black Hair
One of my personal goals for 2012 is to read more books because we have to educate ourselves; knowledge is key! If you recall, I posted a while back [HERE] about a few books that I am interested in reading, and figured its time to start! With that being said, the first book that I am going to dive into is The Science of Black Hair by Audrey Davis-Sivasothy.

MTV's True Life "Natural Hair" Casting Call
We've moved to CurlyNuGrowth.com!
I just found out about MTV's True Life "I'm Going Natural" casting call and I immediately sent in an entry! I think it would be really great to not only feature African-American women chopping off their relaxed hair, but also share a journey with Sisterlocks!
Sisterlocks are a great way for African-American women to go natural and still have the versatility of loose natural or relaxed hair AND they're low maintenance. Check out my YouTube channel [HERE], CurlyNuGrowth; don't you think I'd be good on camera?
If you can support me, send a quick email to casting@lintonmedia.com with subject "CurlyNuGrowth" and say you'd like to see me and my Sisterlock journey!
THANK YOU!!

We've moved to CurlyNuGrowth.com!
The vast amount of information in the natural hair community can be overwhelming at times and it can also become mundane getting the same content time and time again.
Well, being the nerd that I am, I stumbled upon a great way to get information that you're interested in, from blogs you may never even knew existed, delivered right to your inbox; Google Alerts. Many of you may not know what I'm talking about, so let me explain.
