How Do You Determine Good or Bad Hair Advice?

These days, as I browse the web, Twitter, Facebook and various other social media outlets, I'm finding a lot more "bad" hair care advice than "good" factual information.  Which I think is pretty sad and detrimental to the promotion of healthy hair. I specific post/article that I discuss in the video is one in which BlackHair101.com stated that raw chocolate was good for the hair and then a Blogger took this article and shared a post stating that you could use Chocolate Bars in your hair; which is false.

In this week's "NuGrowth Chat" I'm really curious to hear how you determine what is "good" or "bad" hair care advice and whether the source you're getting the information from is entitled to recommend or give that advice. Check out the latest video [HERE] in the NuGrowth Chat series and leave your comments, thoughts, opinions, and/or experiences on philosophy for educating yourself on your hair.

Is Having Natural Hair a Movement or a Trend?

I was moved to pose this question to you after reading an interview feature in Ebony on Jamyla Beenu, Mixtress / Creator of Oyin Handmade [HERE]. In the interview, she was asked "Why do you think it’s become such a movement for women to go back to their roots?" and her response was by far one of the best I've come across:
"There are a number of reasons in my opinion. I sense there is a definite self-love component to it, an emotional and psychological freedom that comes with embracing our hair as it grows from our scalps. Technology also plays a part in the current swell—through instructional videos, blogs, message boards, etc., women are able to share an unprecedented amount of information with each other. People finally feel like they have more options due to the scale of knowledge that exists."

I know this is a topic that is highly debated, but I wanted to share my personal views on the topic and I'm also really curious to hear your opinions as well. Check out the latest video in the NuGrowth Chat series and leave your comments, thoughts, opinions, and/or experiences on whether having natural hair is movement that'll stay or just a passing trend [HERE].

Top 5 Reasons Why I Cut My Sisterlocks

In my Sisterlocks Big Chop video [HERE] I touched on my reasons, which were many, briefly but since so many people are still asking me "Why did you cut your Sisterlocks?" I figured it was time to make a dedicated response. You can watch the video [HERE] discussing my Top 5 reasons and/or check out the post below...

Would You Use Monistat in Your Hair?

Last week, while listening to the Nappturalite Radio show the featured blogger mentioned that natural hair women are putting Monistat in their hair and I thought "What! You're joking!" and I immediately went to social media. After asking whether that statement was true, I learned that is isn't a "new" method and apparently I was late (go figure) and I discovered an entire community of women that practice this method.

Check out the latest video [HERE] in the NuGrowth Chat series to see why women are practicing this method and share your thoughts, opinions, and/or experiences in the video comments!

DISCUSSION | Starting My Locs With Backcombing?

This is my first video, sort of an introduction, to my new journey to Traditional Locs. While searching through YouTube for Loc inspiration and doing some research for my own journey  I stumbled upon two great channels; Shawnta715 and PrettiPoison27

"You Can't Make It In Corporate America With Locs"...Supposedly.

It hurts me that in this day and age we, as a people, cannot embrace our own culture. I recently discovered the article in Black Enterprise entitled "Hampton University School of Business Bans Dreadlocks"....and I did the double take, like really?! I personally know several people that went to Hampton and a few of them actually have locs and graduated and landed great jobs, so why is it that the Dean insists "Male students enrolled in the school's 5-year MBA program who take the seminar class cannot wear dreadlocks or cornrows in class"?!

DIY or Deal With Trust Issues?

We've moved to CurlyNuGrowth.com!

After we go natural, many women chose to take the Do It Yourself (DIY) route and leave trips to the salon for only "complex" services. However, when there is news of Salon's putting relaxers in conditioners without the Client's consent, it makes you think twice...

Question 1: "When you're feeling blah about your hair, how do you spice it up? "

Question 2: "Do you go to the Salon to get your natural hair done? If so, for what services? If not, how come? "

Question 3: "Do you have trust issues when it comes to your natural hair?"

Reactions & Support to Your Natural Hair Journey

My 3 Year Napptural Anniversary is quickly approaching on January 20th and I am quite excited about reaching this milestone. And just like any other special reoccurring occasion, I am looking back to the beginning of it all and I remember the first day wearing my TWA. I went to work on Monday with my hair Flat-Ironed straight and came back on Tuesday with a short curly fro! So I want to know...

"Are you or were you worried about your job's reaction to wearing your natural hair/locs for the first time?"

The Survey Says... But What Are Your Thoughts?

We've moved to CurlyNuGrowth.com!

According to the Sally Beauty's most recent survey [HERE], 39% of women say they would change their hair texture if they could. Would you change YOUR texture? If so why?

Also, the survey says that the 49% of women think a "drastic cut" is the biggest hair risk. Was doing the Big Chop risky for you or are you holding off on doing the Big Chop because its too risky?

Are people that “mildly” relax their hair still natural?

We've moved to CurlyNuGrowth.com!

This is a topic that was presented by TheStrangeFruitGirl [HERE] on YouTube a few weeks ago. In her video [HERE] she discusses how a client of hers put a mild relaxer in their natural hair, but doesn't admit to doing so because she just combed the relaxer through to help loosen her curls.
