How to Moisturize & Seal Your Locs, Twists, Or Braids

Yes, Traditional Locs and protective styles like Twists or Braids do need to be moisturized to maintain the health of the hair. I've noticed though that a lot of people don't know the proper way to moisturize their hair, let alone what moisture is, so I created a quick video [HERE] with a few tips.

What are you currently using to moisturize and seal your hair? Share some of your favorites in the comments below:

In the Stylist's Chair: Yarn Wraps

Last week's "Beauty & The Blog" feature, Jess of HairGetsKinky.com, told me she was going to Trinidad for Carnival and I immediately suggested she get locs...well not actual locs, but a loc'd look with "Yarn Wraps". This style is not only a great protective style, but it is really low maintenance, will last for several weeks, and a great way to change up your look (especially if you're thinking about locs).

Would You Use Monistat in Your Hair?

Last week, while listening to the Nappturalite Radio show the featured blogger mentioned that natural hair women are putting Monistat in their hair and I thought "What! You're joking!" and I immediately went to social media. After asking whether that statement was true, I learned that is isn't a "new" method and apparently I was late (go figure) and I discovered an entire community of women that practice this method.

Check out the latest video [HERE] in the NuGrowth Chat series to see why women are practicing this method and share your thoughts, opinions, and/or experiences in the video comments!

In the Stylist's Chair: CURLS Curl Control Paste

Since I will be starting my locs in a few days, I still want to share loose natural hair products with you so I'm launching a new series called "In the Stylist's Chair". In this new series, I will feature styles I create and/or products that I have discovered and I'll share the results of their styling capabilities.

Marley Twists on Amma's Natural Hair

Today, I had the opportunity to install Marley Twists on a fellow Naturalista in the DMV area, Amma. She has a beautiful head of thick tightly-coiled hair and it was perfect for trying the CURLS Control Paste.

Life As a Hair Stylist Who Cares

As many of you know (or may not know), I quit my corporate job back in July and since then I have started an apprenticeship to obtain my Cosmetology License while also working as a Natural Hair Stylist & Loctician. So far, my experience has been amazing, beyond amazing honestly! I have been able to connect with so many beautiful women and even a few readers of my blog, which has been really cool to say the least!

Even though I am in the early stages of my career in Cosmetology, I see the need to reconnect the Salon/Hair Stylist to women with Natural Hair. I've heard so many women exclaim about bad experiences within a Salon and encountering Stylist that don't know how to or, dare I say, care to take of natural hair. I think that is ludicrous. Natural hair is beautiful, more versatile, and manageable with patience, at least in my opinion but I could go on about that topic forever. I really wanted to share a few hairstyles on natural hair that I've done lately...

[Tutorial] Pin Curls Hairstyle!

This style is really simple to achieve and will result is a head full of loose curls after you take it down. Another great 2 in 1 style! This style is also great for new Sisterlocks because it does not pull on the hair or cause slippage.

If you give it a try, post pictures on the CurlyNuGrowth Wall [HERE]

Bantu Knots on TWA

One of my good friends did the Big Chop a few months ago and her TWA is starting to grow out of the "Wash-N-Go" phase and she was looking for a new style; so I suggested Bantu Knots. They're relatively  easy to do and give great curl definition when you take them out. She was skeptical of doing them, so of course I volunteered to do her first set for her!

[Video Tutorial] Fly & Fabulous Transitioning Hairstyle

We've moved to CurlyNuGrowth.com!

While perusing Facebook today, I found this hairstyle video tutorial posted on StrawberriCurls' blog [HERE]. I think this hairstyle is really cute and is great for women that are transitioning, women that are already natural --even with locs! I plan to try this style on my Sisterlocks sometime in the near future!
