[Hair Diary] Thinking About Combining My Locs

After cutting my Sisterlocks and deciding to embark on my Traditional locs journey, I knew that I wanted thick locs. Having started my Traditional Locs with 50 locs and now at 46 locs after cutting an undercut, I still don't think I'll be achieving my desired look. This really settled in with my most recent loc extension install, which seems to more than likely resemble what my locs will look like in about another year or so of maturity.

Then I stumbled upon the #thicklocs hashtag on Instagram and fell in love with some of the most beautiful thick locs I'd ever seen! After looking into the journey of several of the beauties in this collection of #thicklocs, many of them combined their locs later in their journey, so I'm thinking why not do it now while they're still young?! As of now, my initial plan is not to combine ALL of them but the scraggly ones will definitely be joining a friend in the near future, lol.

The next step in this decision is figuring out what method I'll use to combine them. There are SOOO many options. Interlocking. Two-strand twists. Threading. Wrapping. Base combination. The list goes on and on, so I'll be sure to share what I actually decide.

New Haircolor & Marley Twists!

Yeah... I know what you're thinking, "She colored her hair again?!" .... (hides behind computer screen)... Yeah BUT see what had happened was... Ok in all honesty I was bored, bored with that red-violet color so I took my hair back to its natural medium brown color and I'm going to leave it alone for awhile. Promise!

Versatility of Locs: Marley Hair Extensions

Lately I've been wanting to do something different with my hair and since I've stopped coloring it I had to think of something creative. So I decided to give Crochet Braids a try with Marley Hair.

For the video tutorial, check out this post, "Crochet Marley Hair over Locs Tutorial". If you prefer a visual pictorial, keep on reading :)

Havana Twists on Locs

After I installed the "Marley Twists" on my sister's relaxed hair, I challenged myself to try to install them on my locs. I was going to use the Marley braid hair but because its fine and I would have had to use a lot of strands (and packs of hair) I choose to use the Havana Hair. The Havana hair is thicker than the Marley braid hair and it has more volume which made it a lot easier to cover my locs. I used 3-4 strands of Havana Hair per twists, whereas with the Marley Braid hair I would have had to use at least 5 strands to camouflage my locs.

So after about 2 hours and about 2 bundles of Havana Hair, I have Havana Twists over my locs. Check out the video update [HERE] to see them in action and for more deets.

Did you ever think Havana Twists (or Marley Twists) were possible on locs?

Hair Diary: Shiny Dry Retwist

I'm still on the search for a really good retwist product, sadly the As I Am Smoothing Gel isn't doing the job (review coming soon), and in order to find you have to explore. So today in class we had free time to create a freestyle look on our mannequins or work on each other and I took advantage of working on myself and trying some products, lol. Even though I retwisted my locs last week with the new color [HERE] it was a loose retwist and a week later its pretty frizzy and unraveled so I thought I'd see what the Aveda products could do. I was impressed!

Hair Diary | Chunky & Frizzy

Today, I was really enjoying the look of my locs; despite them being frizzy, messy, and chunky, to me they are beautiful!

But why are my locs so frizzy and messy nowdays? Good question....

Hair Diary: Elegant Gala Hairstyles

TB and I were invited to a Holiday Gala this weekend and I immediately thought..."What am I going to do with my hair"? Honestly, I had a moment of panic thinking just wearing my TWA wouldn't be fancy enough... How silly of me right? Luckily, I was running a little behind and just decided to do a Wash-N-Go.

Hair Diary: Curly Wash-N-Go

So this morning, I decided to try something a little different with my Wash-N-Go regimen...

Lately, I've been using the CURLS line of Leave-In Conditioner and Curl Definier, but today I choose to use a new shampoo and leave-in/hair lotion.

Hair Diary: Crown Roll

I was attempting to create a dutch crown braid with my Sisterlocks and it just was not working out… *sad face*. My Sisterlocks were too thick to braid around my head and connect them to recreate the look so I improvised!

Instead of braiding my hair, I just rolled all my Sisterlocks around my head and secured them with, can you believe it, 3 bobby pins!

I really liked the style and even wore it to the Salon the next morning. People were really intrigued by the style and were curious how I got it to stay, I just said "tuck & roll, tuck & roll", LOL!

Have you tried any styles lately that didn't work out and you improvised to make it your own?
