We've moved to CurlyNuGrowth.com!
While driving to work today, it was much better than music to my ears....it was a story about a News Report that went natural and got permission to document and publicize her story! It is so great to see natural hair being recognized and accepted within mass media. Slowly, but surely, I am hoping this acceptance will encourage more woman to embrace their natural hair!
What I found interesting about her story was that she was told in the beginning of her career (by a black woman) to get extensions if she wanted to "make it" in the industry; she did...and to her surprise she got more work. Then when she came to her producers with her pitch for the story her manager said "..I had no idea black woman had an issue with their hair...".
The negative self-image that some Black women have and perpetuate upon others is really sad. And I personally know it's going to take many generations to correct this mentality but major movements like woman in mass media embracing their natural hair are steps in the right direction! I challenge you to embrace your natural hair (if you haven't already) and encourage other woman to do the same... break the cycle!
Take a look a Rochelle Ritchie's 'Big Chop Story' that was aired on the Channel 5 News in West Palm Beach, Florida and see the strides natural hair is making!
Love it!! That's what's up!!!!
ReplyDeletethis is really good hun!!!
ReplyDeleteIm really glad that more and more women are becoming natural. I have nothing against women who sport permed hair, but I find that it's a shame that many Black women do not know/remember what their hair looks like in its natural state.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThis video helped to make a pleasant start to the day.
