Chai Tea Shampoo Bar Review

A few weeks ago, at the Baltimore Natural Hair Expo [HERE], I picked up a few shampoo bars from the Pure Shea Store. Up until this point, I had never used a shampoo bar on my Sisterlocks, although I have tried the OyinHandmade Poo Bar on my Loose Natural Hair [HERE] and loved the results, so I was anxious to try it on my Sisterlocks.

Right now, at a year and a half, my Sisterlocks still aren't "loc'd" but about 40% of them are beginning to loc and the rest of them are well into the "matting" phase, but there are a few that haven't changed since Day 1 (that 2A section). With that said, I still bundle and band my Sisterlocks when I shampoo to ensure they don't unravel while I'm shampoo'ing. Ok, so now that you know the state that my hair is in, let's get to the review...

Ingredients: Saponified Hemp oil, Soybean oil, Coconut oil, Shea butter, Orris root, fragrance oil, and chai tea spices.

The Shampoo Bar I purchased is in the Chai Tea scent and was about $ 4. As soon as I took it out the packet, I could smell the effervescent chai smell; mmMMm, it was lovely! Now what I've learned from using Shampoo bars before is that they go a really long way and to increase the longevity, you cut it and use it in pieces. So as you can see, I cut a little under an inch of the bar to use for the first few shampoos.

After I bundled my hair and wet it down, I took the small piece of the Shampoo bar and massaged in onto my scalp to create the lather. During the first shampoo, it took about a minute to get a nice shampoo lather but for subsequently shampoos the lather was almost instantaneous. The shampoo bar smelled really nice while I was shampooing and after using my little piece for about 5 shampoos (across two shampoo experiences), its still pretty big.

After my first shampoo experience with it, only using the Shampoo bar, I really liked how it made my Sisterlocks feel; they were moisturized but without causing any slippage and they smelled great. The only downsize was that i noticed was the shampoo bar isn't really cleansing, so even though my scalp was clean, I still had some dandruff on my Sisterlocks. After my second, most recent experience, I used the Jamaican Mango-Lime Tingle Shampoo [review coming soon] first and then two shampoo's with the shampoo bar and I was really happy with the results. My Sisterlocks were completely clean, no dandruff, AND they were moisturized.

Overall, I like the Chai Tea shampoo bar and will continue to use it along with my cleansing shampoos to give my Sisterlocks a clean and moisturizing shampoo.

Have you ever tried a Pure Shea Store shampoo bar or any other Shampoo bar on your hair? How did you like it?

  1. This bar sounds delicious.

Yes, I had a positive response to a shampoo bar I purchased from someone on YouTube. Not sure why I stopped using it.

Shampoo bars are great because you can use them on your entire body. You get more bang for your buck.
