My Sisterlocks are far from perfect in the sense of uniformity, but they're perfect for my personality. I don't intentionally try to be different, it just seems to happen that way and that it pretty much how my Sisterlocks are growing.
Right now, at 21 months into my journey, I think I have almost every phase in my head, from loose and no where near budding to solid bud and loc. So in case you thought my Sisterlocks were "perfect" or all loc'ing and budding at the same pace, let me give you a closer view...
This is one of my favorite locs. It is fully budded on the ends and solid, but it has that curve in it that makes it fun to play with, LOL.
This is one of my Sisterlocks that has been loose up until just recently and I started noticing her trying to form a bud.
This is how a lot of my Sisterlocks in front look, bunched and loose ends. My hair texture in the front is really soft and this is a result of my soft hair trying its hardest to intertwine in loc.
This is another loc from the front area. The loc itself is just as skinny as the day I got them installed, but there is a little bud on the end, LOL.
This loc is from the side of my head and as you can see, more bunching and a bud has yet to fully form.
All the Sisterlocks on the nape of my neck are like this...solid and fully budded. That nappy kitchen area, LOL.
I also have a few Sisterlocks like this, where the bud has formed in the middle. I've debated cutting that little skinny piece after the bud off, but a last they're hanging in there, LOL.
Often times I hear from people about how jealous they are of my Sisterlocks and/or how they wish their Sisterlocks or Locs were "like mine", but my response is always to embrace your nu growth. Remember everyone's hair grows differently and uniquely, enjoy your journey and your growth!
Do you have a Sisterlocks consultant who does your maintenance? I had a set a few years ago installed by a woman who really didn't know what she was doing. She made them the same micro size all over my head, and after a year of monthly maintenance, I STILL had massive unraveling and locs breaking off from too-small beds. My new Sisterlocks consultant is using different patterns all over my head depending on my texture, and after just 6 months, there are only 2 spots that have any unraveling. Everything else is budding nicely. Maybe you should talk to your consultant about changing up the pattern in the looser-textured areas?
ReplyDeleteYes my Sisterlock Consultant does a great job with my maintenance. She installed the test set of Sisterlocks to determine which pattern to use. I haven't had any thinning, breaking, or unraveling. Changing patterns in the middle of the loc could produce holes, but I'll see what she says. Thanks for sharing!
DeleteYou just made my day :) I was beginning to get a little discouraged about the way some if my locs were bunched up in different places and how some were moving slower ( mind you I'm only 5 months in lol) but you helped me so much. The ones around my hairline and a few in the top middle have the most bunching because of the texture difference.
ReplyDeleteAwwww I am glad that I could make you day! Definitely don't get discouraged, especially not so early on, your hair will mature at its on pace.
DeleteI still want to get my sisterlocs but my hair is so long and everyone that I talk to is talking about charging an arm and a leg because my hair is past my shoulders now. I am thinking about cutting my hair. But I do not want to loose my length. Your hair is so pretty.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Try to find a Trainee. Since they're new, their prices usually aren't as high as Certified Consultants.
DeleteFinally I don't feel so bad about my SL's! I'm a little over 3 years in and I'd seriously contemplating cutting my almost bra-strap length locks off and starting over. I too have fully budded solid locks, locks with loose ends (that refuse to bud), and skinny locks with buds on the ends. So glad it's not just me or my hair (soft with a loose curl pattern).
ReplyDeleteI need to keep remembering that my hair is different and unique and my locks won't look like everyone else. Thanks for sharing!
I'm glad I could help to convince you to keep your Sisterlocks! Everyone's hair is different whether its loc'd or loose...don't try to compare your hair to anyone else's instead embrace it :)

I know that this is an old post, but with new sister locks and plenty of loose ends I didn't know what I might even expect to happen. This post gives me a lot of confidence and excitement as I look to the future.
