Grooming & Cutting My Sisterlocks

As I mentioned in my Starting Over video [HERE], I have a lot of repairs to do on my Sisterlocks. I was very anxious to start the process to see how much length I would be able to retain. So yesterday, I brought a small pair of sheers and started what I'm calling "Phase 1". In this first phase I'm removing the bunched, scraggly, and weak ends of my Sisterlocks.

These ends need to be removed because they actually cause the locs to be fragile and they also affect the size of my Sisterlocks. After I cut these ends of it was like finding a whole new set of Sisterlocks that are slender and more closely resemble mature Sisterlocks.

I lost a lot of length with this Phase 1 cutting but my Sisterlocks look and feel a lot better! Personally, I'd rather have short strong hair than long fragile hair.

Before

After
I didn't cut every loc, only the ones that need to be corrected. Now my hair is more even, although not perfectly event because I treated each loc individually, but it somehow came out in a layer cut hairstyle.

Overall, I love the new cut and really like how my locs look without all the lumps, bunched hairs, and excess ends. It's just hair, it'll grow back...

  1. I like your "it'll grow back" attitude. We often hold onto unhealthy hair for fear of losing length. I'm excited to see the finished product after all phases are complete.

  3. Your hair looks great,I really start to notice that my ends don't look like everyone elses. Have you read that hair thing by Dr. Cornwell? She talks about cutting off bunched and relaxed ends. I also notice that in all the pictures in the book no one had bunched ends. I thought that was normal, but I guess I was wrong.. I can't wait to see you next video.

  4. So, I need to cut mine as you've done but a loctician told me that I will cut my pattern if I cut the ends. What are your thoughts about that?
My hair looks like yours on that first picture but more poofy-ugh I DO NOT LIKE my poofy, stringy and knotted ends on some of them. I want to revive my hair, but I don't really know where to start. I am updating my blog to show my hair progress/my current struggles. www.naturalnathalie.blogspot.com

    1. Of course you'll cut into the pattern but just like when you first started them your hair will begin the settling process on the new ends and buds will reform. If you watched the video during your Consultation Dr. Cornwell shows that Sisterlocks can be cut and trimmed just like regular hair.

I am going to check out your blog!

  6. When you cut you loc, did you cut right above the problem sections?
