You guys know how much I love thick locs, and when I started following Weena on Instagram I had an instant case of "loc envy"! Weena not only has a head full of gorgeous locs, but she is a (very talented) Natural Hair Stylist in Canada. I am excited to share her hair story and the great tips she has to offer...
How long have you had your locs and how did you start your journey?
I’ve had them for 16 months and I started with the two strand twist method.
What products and/or methods are you currently using to maintain your locs?
I interlock twice a year and I retwist my roots with the Joie Naturals My Gel when I feel like it which is probably once every 2 or 3 months.
What products have you tried and highly recommend for locs?
I recommend the Joie Naturals My Gel. It is a natural gel that gives a great hold and shine to your locs. I LOVE it!
What products (if any) have you tried and do not recommend for locs?
I’ve tried two products from Jamaican Mango & Lime and I hated them. They made my hair feel very greasy.
What is one thing that you know now, that you wish you knew in the beginning of your journey?
I let a loctician cut the frizz around the length of my locs. I later learned that you should never do that since the frizz becomes part of your locs with time.
What reference(s) do you frequent for information about products, advice, and/or tutorials about natural hair?
I research on youtube and instagram! I love quotidianlight and damianjw84 on youtube.
Anything else you'd like to share?
The first year is probably the hardest part of the journey for most people but be patient, it is worth it!!
I love natural hair so much that I started doing it for other people in 2011 :) Check out my work Facebook.com/StudioNanamtl and #studionanamtl on Instagram.
